Atlas of landforms of West Bohemia

 Hradiště

Description

In the southern part of Pilsen we can find relict of Proterozoic volcanic activity near the city district Hradiště. This form is a neck of meander lobe on the Úslava river and consists of basaltic rock that pertains to Neoproterozoic Era (1000 Ma – 545 Ma). Neoproterozoic volcanic rocks in West Bohemia are concentrated into belts with SW-NE direction that indicate tectonic lines. Along these lines magma penetrated through surface. The neck of meander lobe is eroded by Úslava river from the both sides.
